Certification Process and Requirements
Applicants start the certification process either by completing the initial application online or by filling out a paper application and mailing it to NCCAOM.
Candidates are certified upon verification and acceptance of all required documents and passage of all required examinations. NCCAOM Diplomates have several routes for certification that affect required documentation.
When certification is awarded, candidates receive a wallet-size identification card attached to a congratulatory letter that is mailed directly from NCCAOM. This letter contains the official certification expiration date and certification number. The candidates also receive a wall certificate that is mailed out by a printing company. To view more in-depth information on the certification process please see this interactive guide.
NCCAOM offers five Routes of Eligibility for Certification and two Routes to reinstate certification once lapsed or terminated. Please be aware that not all Routes are available for a particular Certification program. NCCAOM also offers a Retired Diplomate status for each Certification program. Click on the links below for more details about each route.
Requirements for Certification
Please be aware that every candidate is required to meet all certification requirements in place at the point of certification. Therefore, each candidate must meet any new certification requirements that may have been added since the application was approved.
